How did January go for you? We are so glad it’s over that we are going to reward ourselves with taking a sun holiday.
If 2014 is the year you plan to enjoy yourself, take it from us, you deserve a sun holiday.
These are Abbey’s favourite 2014 holiday destinations:
1. Romance: Cancun, Mexico
Guaranteed to WOW your partner, Cancun
is the ultimate romantic holiday destination. Millions of honeymooners flock here every year to enjoy white sand beaches, margaritas and amazing food. During the day, couples can snorkel, parasail or take a boat out to the famous underwater museum. Day trips can also be arranged to visit some of Mexico’s famous Mayan temples including Chichen Itza
. At night Cancun comes alive with bars, restaurants, street food and entertainment making it the perfect blend of sun, fun, culture and romance. We have loads of tips for holidaying in Cancun here
2. Family time: Orlando, Florida
A trip to Orlando
is a dream holiday the kids will be talking about for years. With its year-round temperate climate and its friendly, welcoming atmosphere, it’s a perfect place to bring kids of all ages. Attractions for the kids include: Walt Disney World Resort
and “The wizarding world of Harry Potter” at Universal Studios
. For you, think spas, golf, shopping, restaurants and nightlife. It’s all in one place and believe us, the kids will thank you for this for a long, long time! For more info on family holidays in Orlando read our earlier blog post on family holidays to Orlando
3. Wild weekend: Las Vegas, Nevada
is not for the faint of heart. But if you are looking for a blow-out holiday with your mates, this is the place to visit. Disneyland for adults as it is more affectionately known is an experience in extremism. Highlights include Caesar’s Palace hotel & casino, The Bellagio fountain display, the Freemont Street Experience
in downtown Vegas and day trips to the the Grand Canyon
and the Hoover Dam
. Remember, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. For some top tips on making the most of Las Vegas check our Lisa’s blog post which she wrote after her holiday there a few months ago here
4. Relaxation: Malta
For a relaxing holiday location, far away from it all, you can’t beat Malta
as a top European destination. The Maltese Islands, Malta, Gozo & Comino, are located in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea. This means they get more than 12 hours of sunshine every day - although the sea breeze cools you down so it never gets too hot. The quaint Island of Gozo was voted in the top ten of the Trip Advisor Traveller’s Choice Awards, 2013. The Maltese are also very proud of their culture and Valletta, the capital city of Malta was recently announced as European Capital of Culture 2018
5. Party time: Majorca
Last on our list but by no means least: the Spanish party island of Majorca
, otherwise known as Mallorca. Our two favourite party towns are Santa Ponsa & Magaluf:
a major holiday resort located on the south west of Majorca, sunny Magaluf caters for young singles and couples looking for a fun getaway. The nightlife and pub scene is buzzing with big-name DJs playing here like Calvin Harris and Judge Jules. With three white sand beaches and beautiful clear blue seas, relaxation can also be had during the day. But for the fun seekers: jet skiing, wind surfing and scuba diving are guaranteed to keep you entertained.
also located on the south west coast of the island, it is a thriving party town catering to a young and lively crowd. Party animals flock here from all over Europe to enjoy the heady nightlife and to soak up the exuberant atmosphere. With sunshine all the way between May and October, lying on one of the gorgeous beaches may be just the ticket to getting over the night before.
