7 romantic things to do in Mexico

Honeymoon in MexicoYou’re about to get hitched (congratulations!) and you’re planning a well-deserved honeymoon. You want somewhere hot to unwind from the wedding frenzy. But you’d really like to go somewhere different to your seven pals who got married in the last year.

Whether you’re celebrating your honeymoon or just showing that special someone you care, nothing says romance quite like the sun and sand of Mexico. This Latin American country is becoming a really hot destination for Irish holidaymakers.

With a coast of golden beaches and a vibrant local culture, Mexico is definitely one of the most romantic, and accessible locations in Latin America. We’ve written about Mexico’s best holiday hot spots before including the highlights of Cancun, Riviera Maya and Playas del Carmen. But if you still need convincing here are just some of the romantic things you can get up to there.

1. Relax on the beach

It would be difficult to argue against the romance of soaking up some sun with your loved one on the beautiful beaches of Cancun. Take a dip in the ocean and let the day (and your post wedding exhaustion) just pass you by.

Tequila2. Go tequila tasting in Mexico City

There is no shortage of bars in Mexico’s capital, and where there are bars in Mexico there is tequila. Why not try out El Bar, which is famous for its selection of tequilas and mezcals, or the Museum of Tequilas and Mezcal? Rather than taking this tequila in one shot with salt and lime, these tequilas are to be savoured, particularly in good company.

3. Enjoy a Mariachi serenade

Music can make or break the perfect romantic moment. Why not take charge of the music yourself and hire a traditional Mariachi band to serenade you and your partner? Few things feel as intimate as a song played for an audience of two, and you can have a unique soundtrack for your romantic evening.

The Yucatan Peninsula is filled with underground rivers and caverns, known as cenotes. Spend a day out from beautiful Cancun exploring these spectacular feats of nature with your partner. It will be an adventure neither of you will ever forget. Guided tours are available for those who hope to see something truly unique.

5. Visit Isla Contoy

Just off the coast of Cancun is the uninhabited island of Isla Contoy. While you could spend a day there enjoying the natural beauty of the island, it would be a shame to go there without taking in the majesty of the whale sharks. For those who want to make it a little more exciting, you can even go snorkelling for a closer look.

Couple Massage6. Spend a day in the spa

After all your adventures, a day of pampering in one of Mexico’s fine spas will be just what the doctor ordered. Just relax and enjoy this luxurious experience. Many of Mexico’s hotels offer couple’s treatments so you can enjoy the comforting bliss of a day at the spa with your partner.

7. Take a trip to the US

Why not have another holiday within your holiday? Take full advantage of being in the Americas by making a trip to Las Vegas or stopping off in New York City on your way to or from Mexico. See the bright lights of the Vegas strip or go see a Broadway show and enjoy one of the most iconic cities in the world.
