5 Unmissable Family Activities in Salou

Family Holidays to SalouHere at the Abbey office, we think a trip to Salou makes for the perfect family holiday. Salou is clean, quiet and safe with lots of fun things to do for adults and kids alike. Very budget-friendly, there is something for everyone.

5 Family activities in Salou

With its clean sand and shallow water, Salou has great beaches for little ones to play in the sun. And the best part - it’s only 15 minutes from the airport so there are no long journeys to make. Once you get there, you could stay and lounge at one of Salou’s 34 Blue Flag beaches,
but if you fancy a family day out, look no further - here are our top 5 family activities for 2014:

PortAventura Family Park

1. PortAventura

Only 1.5 Km outside Salou is arguably the best theme park in Spain. Be prepared to spend the whole day here! The park is host to both the tallest and the fastest rollercoaster in Europe: Shambala. At a cost of €25 million, the recently constructed Shambala hypercoaster rises to 76m and reaches speeds of 134Km/h on the first descent. Not for the faint-hearted but makes for a thrill that you will never forget. This is a ride for older kids and is not recommended for under-13s. With the thrilling Dragon Khan and Furious Baco, older kids will be very well catered for. Little ones also have the fantastic kid’s zone, SesamoAventura, with loads of rides and Sesame Street characters. This is a mini-Disneyland that is a must-do if staying in Salou.

2. Costa Caribe Aquatic Park

Costa Caribe

PortAventura is also home to the Costa Caribe Aquatic Park. This is another fun day out for the family. Built on 50,000 square metres, it is home to 16 rides and attractions for all ages. There is even a quiet area for younger kids so the whole family can enjoy this refreshing experience. Parents can join the fun or just relax on a sun lounger or in one of the many restaurants or shops in the park.

3. Tarragona

This city is just a short 15 minute drive from Salou. It boasts a UNESCO World Heritage site—the ancient Roman ruins of Tarraco. It also has several 12th and 13th century churches with beautiful architecture and sculptures. As well as keeping the budding archaeologists happy, Tarragona also delights with its selection of Blue Flag beaches and fresh seafood restaurants.
Definitely worth the trip if you fancy getting out of Salou for the day.

House of Illusion Salou4. House of Illusion

The House of Illusion is an all-inclusive night out for the whole family, with lots of magic and mystery guaranteed. How would you fancy dinner and drinks while being entertained by magicians? The kids will love it and you will too! Mind reading and sleight of hand is followed by a live comedy show and that is not even the main event! The famous illusions are yet to come and will astound all present. We would advise you to book early to avoid disappointment.

5. Bosc Aventura

This is an active adventure playground for kids aged from 3 and over with special areas for teens and adults alike. This multisports park is in Salou itself, so you won’t have to travel too far. Bosc Aventura is one of the top attractions for families in Salou and provides a whole day of fun. With paintballing, zip lining and mini golf, there are activities that the whole family can enjoy doing together. Don’t forget: if you fancy some “me-time”, it’s just over an hour’s drive to Barcelona for a spot of shopping in Spain’s coolest city.

Happy holidays!
