5 Things I Loved About my Holiday in Argentina
Monica Rossi, one of our Australia & Worldwide experts, tells us about a recent holiday in Argentina…Buenos Aries to be exact!
1. The Market at San Telmo
Arriving in Buenos Aires early on Sunday morning gave us a chance to visit the market in San Telmo. This is a really colourful place with a mixture of shops and street stalls selling everything from pencils to horseshoes! And of course there is the tango, at nearly every corner buskers playing music and dancing.
2. Shopping in Buenos Aires
Besides being a tourist haven (especially places such as La Boca, Palermo and Recoleta), Buenos Aires it is also a great shopping city. You would be foolish not to bring a spare bag.
3. Dining and entertainment – the Argentinian way!
In the evenings there were lovely restaurants and bars to visit and we even came across some locals having a tango session in a large hall in San Telmo. Anyone could join in, but we decided not to make a show of ourselves! Another holiday in Argentina is definitely on the cards, so we might do some practice and make a show of ourselves the next time!
4. Puerto Madero and Palermo
Puerto Madero really stood out as being a nice place to visit. Originally an old dock area, Puerto Madero has been renovated and its wide streets are lined with restaurants and shops. I loved Palermo too; it has a very European feel and there are plenty of bars full of beautiful people.
5. Day Trips and Activities: From Horse-Riding to Dining and Everything in Between!
There’s a range of day trips to do from the city including a day on a ranch or estancia. The staff are all dressed in traditional Gaucho gear and you can join them in a horse ride or carriage ride. They also put on a display of dancing, singing and gaucho skills. The highlight for us though was the lunch, a feast of barbequed Argentinian meats and fresh salads, yum!
