Visit New Zealand: 5 Adrenaline Pumping Things to do in Queenstown

New Zealand. Those two words mean so much to many of our customers here at Abbey Travel. We have planned so many trips to this wonderfully understated country.
As most of you probably know, New Zealand is made up of two islands known as the North Island and the South Island. In our opinion South Island is the more picturesque and natural of the two islands.
Queenstown is one of our favourite places on the South Island, and it is an area which is growing in popularity among our customers…and for good reason too!
When we think of Queenstown, we think of adventure, activities, excitement…all those things that make us happy
Our New Zealand expert, Kathryn, has given us a list of her customers’ top five favourite Queenstown activities:

Bungee Jumping

Did you know that bungee jumping originated in New Zealand? What better place to try this adrenaline-laden activity than in the motherland of the humble bungee jump? If you fancy taking the plunge (quite literally!) in Queenstown, there are plenty of options including Nevis Bungy featuring the highest jump in the southern hemisphere!

So you – for some unknown reason – have always wanted to throw yourself out of a plane? OK, fair enough! Why not do it somewhere where you will be treated to some beautiful scenery. Queenstown is home to snowy peaks, rolling hills, deep blue lakes, and flowing rivers. Now, close your eyes and imagine seeing this from 12000-15000 feet. The views are nothing short of “wow” and “life-changing”.

Jet Boating

Let’s face it; heights just don’t do it for some people! The great thing about Queenstown is that you don’t have to love heights to get a thrill; you can go Jet Boating! Yes, get your adrenaline from the water! In Queenstown, you can enjoy the ultimate jet boating experience which will inject you with pure thrill and excitement. Experience the angry white rapids on a jet boat, while being expertly steered past rocky outcrops, and through narrow canyons…at speed! Definitely not for the faint-hearted, but very rewarding for those who dare to step-aboard!

Canyon Swinging

So you’re brave enough to jump off a bridge, jump out of a plane and dance the wild white rapids on a jet boat. How about engaging in a spot of canyon swinging? Described on Trip Advisor as an intense, undie-staining, adrenalin stimulating activity achieved by launching yourself from a 109m high cliff mounted platform, Canyon Swinging will give you the thrill of all thrills. You will reach speeds of 150kph as you freefall for 60m, before gliding into a 200m swing.

Heli-biking might be something you are less familiar with. We can guarantee you that once you try this activity, you will be eager to become more familiar with it! Cutting to the chase, heli-biking involves taking an exciting helicopter ride to the summit of some of Queenstown’s most stunning mountain tops. Once there, you can enjoy the views from mountain bike while exploring some of the most unique biking trails in the southern hemisphere.
