Brazil exciting times

posted by Worldwide Travel - 17 October 2011

After a few weeks of Rio I went travelling up north to Salvador, which was a lovely town.  All the shops & houses in the town were painted in bright colours it was pretty cool.  I travelled back down to Rio for the New Year’s party on Copacabana beach.  This beach is 4km long and what a party it was, probably the best New Year’s party I have been too.  Copacabana beach is lit up at night and you can watch kids playing football, the skill of some of them was amazing, they really love their football there.  I met a few English lads at the hostel and we went to the Maracana stadium to watch Manchester United v Vasco da Gama.  That was the scariest thing I ever did in Brazil. The Christ the Redeemer statue was amazing, you get to see the whole of Rio, I went up late in the evening and by the time I was on my way back down it was dark, it was a wonderful sight to see the city all lit up.

I then headed off to Ilha Grande for a few days. You will have to take a short bus ride to the ferry then it’s only about 1hr 30 min. One of my favourite islands I have ever visited. The sand is white and like walking on flour with turquoise water, what more could you want. There are also rain forest tours and plenty of snorkelling. The beach is surrounded by mountains with lush green forest. There are plenty of guesthouses, bars & restaurants. Trust me you will never want to leave.
