Welcome to Fremantle


Fremantle is a port city just 19km South of Perth and is situated at the mouth of the Swan River. Fremantle's modern maritime museum sits at the the mouth of the harbour. The city is renowned for its preserved architectural heritage, including convict-built colonial-era buildings, an old jetty and port, and prisons. Fremantle Prison was once the most notrious prisons in the entire British Empire and is now on the World Heritage list. Fremantle offers a variety of cuisine and has a strong emphasis on Italian and Asian foods and also offers a number of seafood restaurants.  It has a popular nightlife with bars & nightclubs attracting people from all over the region.  Fremantle also has a lively music scene with performers in many local venues.

The Australian Dollar (AUD) is divided into 100 cents. Banks and bureaux de change exchange most foreign currencies. Travellers cheques are also welcome everywhere, but banks take a small commission and it is better to take cheques in major currencies (e.g. US dollars or Euros) to avoid additional charges. Credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs are freely available throughout the country. Banking hours are generally 9.30am to 4pm Monday to Thursday, and 9.30am to 5pm on Friday, but some banks offer extended hours and some are open on Saturday mornings.
