Hamburg is Germany’s second largest city and is a major port city in northern Germany. It is connected to the North Sea by the River Elbe. Hamburg has hundreds of canals and large green areas. The Alstadt (old town) and Neustadt (new town) are connected by Jungfernstieg boulevard. The distance from Hamburg Airport to Hamburg is approximately 11km.

In 1888, warehouses were built for the port of Hamburg in a Gothic Revival architecture style. Today they are a World Heritage Site called Speicherstadt (City of Warehouses) with apartments, cafes and attractions along its canals. Alongside Speicherstadt is HafenCity, a waterside complex with the Elbphilharmonie (Great Concert Hall), shimmering with 1000 curved windows, an observation deck and café at 100m high. Planten un Blomen is a beautiful park with 47 hectares of gardens, ponds and greenhouses. Other places of interest that are well worth a visit are the International Maritime Museum, St Michaels Church which is famed for its 17th century baroque style, and the Kunsthalle art museum where works from Goya, Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto, Gauguin, Picasso, Warhol, Emin and more are displayed.

Hamburg is suitable for everyone, including families, friends, couples and solo travellers. Miniatur Wunderland, the world’s largest model railway system is a great way for adults and children to spend a day. For entertainment, Hamburg has a very vibrant nightlife and great shopping outlets.
