Sydney
New South Wales (NSW) borders three states, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria, and has more than 780 national parks and reserves. It is the most populated state in Australia with over 7 million residents and has a diversity of activities including wine tasting tours, surfing, exploring National Parks and World Heritage Centres, whale watching, outback adventure tours and, believe it or not, even skiing in the Perisher Valley. The most popular areas in NSW are Sydney, Byron Bay, Hunter Valley and the Blue Mountains.
The climate is moderate. December to February is summertime down under and the coast usually has high humidity, with the northwestern region normally the hottest.
The Snowy Mountain region is the coldest area, with snowfall and long periods of frost during the winter months, which are from June to August.
Plane
There are a number of airlines, which operate within New South Wales - Qantas Airways, Regional Express, Virginblue, Aeropelican and Brindabella Airlines.
Car
Within NSW there are dual carriageways and motorways, which link Sydney with other cities to the north, south and west. Some popular NSW road trips include Sydney to Bateman’s Bay and Eden and Sydney to the famous Blue Mountains & Hunter Valley. Campervans are another great way of travelling around NSW. There are many different bus passes you can choose from if you decide to travel long distances, from one to three months with unlimited stops.
Hunter Valley is a famous region for Australia’s wine industry and only a 2 hour drive from Sydney.
Byron Bay is one of the best surfing spots in all of Australia. It is a small town and extremely relaxed and laid back, no fast food here.
Blue Mountains National Park is a World Heritage area and is one of the best and most popular National Parks in Australia. It's only 2 hours from Sydney by car or train.
I had 3 weeks hoilday, and wanted to see my brother and family in Australia. My brother lives in Bondi, so thought it best to stay in this area.
I stayed at the Swiss Grand Bondi hotel on Bondi Beach which was fabulous. Lovely spacious rooms with small separate room off bedroom and great rooftop swimming pool and spa. Bondi beach has great beach/walks/restaurants/bars/shops and is only 20mins from city centre, so we had best of both words. Were able to go to city centre to do harbour cruise, city tour and wander around the city & harbour area taking it all in.
After Sydney we flew to Hamilton Island and spent a few days at the Reef View Hotel. Hamilton is great with loads to do, nice restaurants, good sailing trips. Highlight was sailing trip to Whitehaven beach, stunning.
