Labasa
Labasa is located in the north-eastern part of Vanua Levu, and is the largest town on the island. It is mainly a farming community, based on sugar cane, but it also has fishing and timber.
It is off the beaten track for tourists so if you want to explore the real Fiji then this is the place to be. There are a few good hotels and the people of Labasa are well known for their warmth and kindness.
This is the best point of entry in the north if you're headed for the area's superb off-shore resort, Nukubati.
