The variety of landscape, history and general interest in Sicily is truly bewildering, whether in the dramatic snow-capped cone of Mount Etna, the palaces of Palermo, or the sophistication of Taormina. Taormina itself is a colourful maze of narrow streets and terraces, sitting at the top of a steep hill, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside, Mount Etna, and the Mediterranean sea.

The Greco-Roman Amphitheatre, set into the hillside, is open to the public. Fashionable boutiques and gift shops mingle with outdoor cafes and intimate restaurants, making Taormina a special place by day or night, with romantic views at every turn. Below at sea level, lies the resort area of Mazzaró, and the coastal road alongside the Ionian Sea. The two areas are linked by a cable car with panoramic views.

Beaches here are mostly of shingle and pebble, with warm shallow waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling. With an excellent hot and sunny climate and warm, friendly people, Sicily offers plenty for the sun worshipper, the sports enthusiast and the sightseer.
