Fiona's Trip to Boston
By Fiona Reinhardt
I recently travelled with my family to New Hampshire and Cape Cod in the north-east of the USA. Having rented a car and travelled to the USA before, I was excited for the opportunity to do it again, and we planned an itinerary from Boston to Salem, North Conway, Hampton Beach, and Cape Cod. We flew into Boston Logan with Delta Airlines and rented our car from Alamo.
Location
The first stop on our itinerary was Salem, New Hampshire, 40 minutes’ drive from the airport. After this we travelled to North Conway, a ski resort with Mt Washington close by and with loads to do in the area. Our third stop, Hampton Beach was about two hours’ drive away and was a busy seaside town, with a beach and seafront attractions. Finally, we travelled on to Cape Cod where we stayed in the lovely town of Hyannis, the port with connections to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

What I Loved
My favourite thing about this trip was that we managed to fit in so many different places and experiences. We were so lucky to fit in four different parts of the north-east, and seeing something new in each place easily kept us entertained. We were definitely never bored!

Activities & Places to See
- The Canoble Lake Park is a theme park in Salem with an excellent water park, and the family price of $140.00 was very reasonable.
- We had an unforgettable day taking a kayaking trip on the Saco River with Saco Canoe and Tubing Rentals, travelling down the river for 5 hours and doing lots of swimming.
- Don’t miss the opportunity to travel to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard islands by boat. Both are beautiful with pleasant beaches, although Nantucket is slightly more expensive.

Shopping
North Conway in particular was excellent for shopping; New Hampshire has no sales tax, so you pay nothing extra on top of the price tag. There are outlet malls with popular brands like Nike, Michael Kors, and Tommy Hilfiger. There are also good malls in Salem and Hyannis, such as the Cape Cod Mall.

Food & Bars
We visited lots of different restaurants on the trip, including 99 Restaurant, a family chain that was great value. Fresh Ketch in Hyannis did delicious seafood, as you would expect next to the Atlantic! In North Conway we also came across Delaney’s Irish Bar, which had some great food and drink too.

Beaches
The beaches in Massachusetts and New Hampshire are famous, with Martha’s Vineyard even being the filming location for the movie Jaws. The beaches on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are very pleasant and clean during the summer, although they do get quite busy. You can also find great beaches on Cape Cod, including the long Hyannis Beach.
