Cologne is situated in North Rhine-Westphalia and is the fourth largest city in Germany. It is also the largest city on the river Rhine, Germany’s longest river. Along the banks of the Rhine is the Old Town of Cologne which is the city’s historic quarter. Cologne is 40km from Dusseldorf and 34km from Bonn with an international airport mid-way between Bonn and Cologne. Cologne has been a banking center and home to one of the world’s oldest stock exchanges since the Middle Ages. It is famous for its chocolate and the ‘Eau de Cologne’, which was first produced in the 18th century. Cologne hosts more than 30 museums and hundreds of galleries including the Museum Ludwig, which has the biggest pop art collection outside the USA.
