Faro is the capital of the Algarve region in Portugal. The historic centre of Faro is called the Cidade Velha and is enclosed within ancient walls and includes a gothic cathedral and cobbled streets. The Rio Formosa is a natural park to the south of Faro and is a habitat for birdlife such as flamingos, storks, shanks, razorbills and many more. Faro is very cosmopolitan city with cafes, restaurants and bars.
