Enjoy some leisure time in town before departing for Oudtshoorn after lunch. There is a dramatic change in the landscape as you drive inland to Little Karoo, a region that is much drier and hotter. Oudtshoorn is famous for its ostrich feather industry and is still the ostrich capital of the world. Tonight, stay at a guesthouse in De Rust, a quiet, rural Karoo village.

Days 10 – 11 Two days exploring Cape Town and surroundings

  • You have two days to explore Cape Town and its surroundings, the most exciting destination in South Africa. As you can only visit the top of Table Mountain if the cloud cover and wind are favourable it is better to buy the cable car tickets on the spot (not included) than to prebook them. You also have the option of visiting Robben Island on one of the days, it is recommended to prebook and pay the tour leader locally. On one of the days, there is a trip down the Cape Peninsula along the Atlantic Seaboard. Pass by Camps Bay, Llandudno and Hout Bay on the way to Cape Point via Chapman’s Peak drive. Visit the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where you can see elands, bonteboks, springboks, wildebeest, baboons and ostriches. The reserve has rugged cliffs, unspoiled beaches, shipwrecks and beautiful flora. Take a two-hour walk in the reserve visiting the old lighthouse for the panoramic views, then on to the new lighthouse, which has spectacular cliff views and down to the Cape of Good Hope. After leaving the park there is a stop at Simon’s Town, a former Royal Navy base, and at Boulders Beach to see the penguin colony.
Accommodation: City Lodge Hotel Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (or similar) / Meals included: Breakfast

Day 12 End Cape Town
