Malia is a popular holiday resort lying on the northeast coast of Crete, just over 30km east of Heraklion, the capital of Crete. It is less than a 30 minute drive from the airport. Malia enjoys a Mediterranean climate, so summers are hot and dry while winters are mild.

Malia is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Crete and is also known for its beautiful beach. There are six separate beaches stretching over 5km offering endless fun in the sun with all kinds of water sports available. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs on the lively main strip but if you want something quieter, wander around Malia Old Town with its picturesque alleyways and churches dating back to the Venetian age or stop and enjoy lunch at one of the traditional tavernas. Just 3km outside of the town is a Minoan Palace archaeological site or visit the historic Palace of Knossos in nearby Heraklion.

Malia is known for its lively nightlife and music scene, attracting world-class DJs during the summer months. As a result, it is a popular destination amongst younger travellers. You can start your night at the top of the strip and work your way down and end up having breakfast on the beach.
