Discover Mahon
Mahon is the capital of Menorca and is on the eastern side of the island. Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands which also includes Majorca and Ibiza. It is famous for its British-style Georgian houses and has a fabulous port area. Mahon has one of the world’s largest natural harbours where luxury yachts are moored all the year round.
Mahon is an historic city which is compact enough to cover on foot or you can take the ‘Little red train‘ for an hour-long leisurely tour of the city. Mahon is renowned for its cuisine and claims to be the birthplace of mayonnaise. There is a bustling fish market with stalls piled high with prawns and lobsters and a courtyard to sit and enjoy some tapas and a cold beer. Along the port shore there are plenty of restaurants, bars and terraces. To the north of the city is Cap de Favaritx Nature Reserve and l'Illa d'en Colomi, an area popular for bird watching.
Mahon is ideal as a city break for couples who are looking for some history and culture along with delicious food, great shopping and relaxing bars. It’s also a great day trip option for families based in one of the many holiday resorts on the island.
