Zanzibar is an archipelago in Tanzania consisting of the islands of Unguja, Pemba Island and many other small islands. Much of the island is flat, with patches of forest dispersed throughout where vegetation such as coconut and raffia palms grow. Zanzibar experiences a tropical monsoon climate, with temperatures reaching their highest levels of around 32°C between December and March. The island also experiences two wet seasons; the long rains season from March to May and the short rains season from mid-October and December.
One of Africa’s most popular tourist destinations, there are plenty of reasons why so many are attracted to Zanzibar. It’s a tropical island paradise with white sand beaches and crystal-clear warm seas that stretch for as far as the eye can see. The island’s beauty continues underwater; snorkelling and diving will allow visitors to catch a glimpse of the marine life and coral reefs that lie beneath the surface of the sea. The forests are home to some amazing wildlife, including the endangered Red Colombus Monkey, and dolphins can sometimes be spotted off the coast of the island at Kizimkazi. The food on offer in Zanzibar is truly special, as the island is well known for its spices and fresh seafood. It's highly recommended that visitors indulge in some authentic cuisine at the restaurants around the island or at the local markets.
