Itinerary

Day 1: Johannesburg

  • After a welcome meeting at 12 noon, head out on a 2-hour cycling tour of Soweto. Cycle through the vibrant community of Meadowlands, continue to the Hector Pieterson Memorial, and Vilakazi street where Nelson Mandela used to live.

Accommodation: Holiday Inn, Rosebank or similar. Meals included: No meals included on this day.

Day 2: Hluhluwe Game Reserve

  • Depart Johannesburg after an early breakfast and travel to Hluhluwe–Imfolozi Park in the heart of KwaZulu Natal. You will camp at an eco-lodge just 20km from the park. This is participatory camping so the group will help the crew with meal prep and washing up.

Accommodation: Bonamanzi Game Reserve or similiar (Basic Camping). Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 3: Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park

  • Depart after breakfast to Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park for a full day game drive with a picnic lunch. You will have a chance to spot African elephant, black rhinoceros, Cape buffalo, African lion, African leopard, and white rhino.

Accommodation: Bonamanzi Game Reserve or similiar (Basic Camping). Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 4: Kosi Bay

  • Depart northeast for Kosi Bay Nature Reserve game reserve with a visit to a Zulu village on the way. The mangrove and coral reef of Kosi Bay is backed by picturesque jungle with wild figa and monkey orange trees, home to grazing hippos. Enjoy a night under the stars as you relax around the campfire by you log cabin accommodation.

Accommodation: Kosi Bay Lodge or similar. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 5: Kosi Bay

  • A full spent exploring Kosi Bay by kayak. The area is famous for mangrove trees and the traditional fish traps built by the Tsonga people. Take the opportunity to snorkel over the coral reef in search of some colourful fish.

Accommodation: Kosi Bay Lodge or similar. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 6: Hlane National Park

  • Head north to the small kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland), and Hlane National Park. This large expanse of bushveld is home to the largest wild herds in Eswatini. Your camp is within easy reach of Ndlovu's floodlit waterhole, a great place to spot some local wildlife. The site is lit at night by candles and laterns and has a braai/barbeque area, communal kitchen, and showers facilities.
  • Optional Activities: Guided Walking Safari / Game Drive

Accommodation: Hlane Royal National Park or similar - (Basic camping). Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 7: Hlane National Park

  • Explore Hlane National Park on a game drive in an open vehicle with a park guide. The 30,000 hectares of flat lowland with some grasslands and shallow pan sis home to wildebeest, zebra impala, cheetahs, and an array of birdlife.
  • Optional Activities: Guided Walking Safari / Game Drive

Accommodation: Hlane Royal National Park or similar - (Basic camping). Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 8: Kruger National Park

  • Cross back into South Africa and journey to Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Southern Africa. On arrival at the park start a game drive in an overland truck before reaching camp to set up.
  • Optional Activity: Night Game Drive

Accommodation: Skukuza campsite or similar (Basic Camping). Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 9: Kruger National Park

  • A full day’s game drive in Kruger. Hopefully spot lions, elephants, buffalo, antelope, hyena along with exotic birds like the bronze mannikin, ostrich, and eagles.

Accommodation: Skukuza campsite or similar (Basic Camping). Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 10: Blyde River Canyon

  • Head for one of South Africa's most spectacular attractions, Blyde River Canyon. This is one of the largest and greenest canyons in the world, a great place for walking. Explore the stunning Bourke's Luck Potholes, where the rock formations change colour with the light.

Accommodation: Mogodi Lodge or similar. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 11: Blyde River Canyon – Free Day

  • Enjoy some free time with the family to relax or take part in one of the many activities on offer.

Accommodation: Mogodi Lodge or similar. Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner.

Day 12: End Johannesburg

  • Enjoy some free time after breakfast before returning to Johannesburg. Trip ends at Tambo International Airport or at the original joining point location.
