You all know by now that here at Abbey Travel we ADORE all things Aussie!
Have you all read our blog post on great things to do in Sydney? If not, you can read it here
Whenever we are considering booking a trip to Australia, we put just about as much thought and planning into our stopovers as we do our end destination.
Common Australia Stopovers
When you are travelling from Ireland to Australia, there are – in broad terms – four different stopover choices, depending on what airline you travel with. These are: Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Bangkok.
If you have the time, we suggest a quick stopover at one of these destinations. Here at Abbey Travel, we can arrange airport transfers and hotels for you prior to your departure.
We have pinpointed our favourite things to do in each place – just in case you decide to take us up on our Australian stopover suggestion…
Kuala Lumpur with Malaysia Airlines
Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia and it is an absolute gem of a city. It has a great mix of multi-cultural vibes and South-East Asian metropolitan character. You cannot visit Kuala Lumpur without a visit to the Petronas Towers
. Once the tallest skyscrapers in the world, these towers are a spectacle to be savoured. They stand at a height of 451.9 m and 88 storeys, and they have been described as being majestic by day and dazzling by night.
Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It has been aptly described to us by one customer as being an opulent city with a conservative culture. Despite its conservative nature, there are lots of great things to do there such as a trip to Ferrari World
, Yas Waterworld
or of course, a desert safari.
Dubai with Emirates
Dubai is another city situated in the United Arab Emirates. The only way to describe it is as a vibrant melting pot of multi-culturalism. It is less conservative than Abu Dhabi, and it oozes diversity. One of our favourite things to do in Dubai is visit the souks. Souks are the Middle-Eastern version of a market. There are lots of different types of Souks – textiles, spices and fish for example. The most popular by far, however, are the gold souks. If you enjoy bargaining, you will be in heaven here!
Bangkok – Qantas Airways
Bangkok is known as the City of Angels. But – somehow – it is so much more. As someone who has been there recently, I would describe it as a charming city which has an uncanny ability to blend the old with the new. There is lots to do in Bangkok, but again, the markets are just wonderful. From floating markets on the river to the Patpong night markets, Bangkok is an absolute paradise for avid market-goers – even for those in search of something very unique.
