Say goodbye to wind-lashed Irish landscapes, play nicer car games than “spot the ghost estate”, and say hello to sunshine, the American road and – maybe best of all – American food. You cannot beat a good American roadtrip.
There are tonnes of great roadtrips to choose from when it comes to the USA. Our favourite one is one known as “Sandcastles and Family Fun” (and yes, it is as great as it sounds!). This trip won’t have you on the road more than a couple of hours a day (and sometimes much less), but you’ll be taking in some of the finest family entertainment and activities that America has to offer (and that’s saying something). You can read more about the roadtrip here ->
Here are a few highlights from our favourite Florida adventure, from Mickey Mouse to NASA.
Walt Disney World
The Magic Kingdom, The Happiest Place on Earth, call it what you want, but Disney theme parks are monuments to joy, imagination, innocence and music. It’s hard to explain to anyone who’s never been there, but every last brick in Walt Disney World is designed and chosen to whisk you to a real life cartoon celebration of the magic of the childhood.
The phrase “fun for all the family” tends to get overused, but Universal Studios has been around a long time – long enough to have attractions based on Terminator, Transformers, Shrek, Despicable Me, ET and Barney. There’s also a wealth of restaurants and shows, including their world famous Blues Brothers show.
Kennedy Space Centre
Whether you’re a fan of the film Gravity, a science nut who wants to learn about the next mission to Mars, or you’d like to see a real life space shuttle, you should set your course destination for the Kennedy Space Centre. Kids will love the Shuttle Launch Experience – a theme ride that recreates the experience of the other ultimate road trip.
Everglades Safari Park
This expansive, lush national park is well maintained, educational and (you’ll be grateful to hear) fun! Take an airboat ride, go shopping or dining, or even visit an alligator farm. Keep your hands and fingers in the vehicle at all times!
Your kids may not be fans of Ernest Hemingway, but you might want to check out the place where he wrote many of his most famous books. There’s also over a hundred miles of beach, great shopping, seafood restaurants aplenty and different types of festivals all year round.
So a Florida roadtrip sounds right up your street?
We don’t blame you! It really is stuffed FULL of great nuggets of memory-making magic.
