Madrid, the lively capital of Spain, is a perfect spot for a weekend getaway with your family. In September, the weather's great, and there's plenty for everyone to enjoy – from cultural sights to delicious Spanish food.

Madrid, the capital and largest city of Spain, is situated in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula on the Meseta Central plateau. Known for its rich cultural heritage, the city is home to numerous museums, art galleries, and historic landmarks.

What I Loved

Madrid captivates with its vibrant blend of rich cultural heritage, showcased in museums and historic landmarks, while its lively atmosphere, delectable cuisine, and warm hospitality create an irresistible allure for residents and visitors alike.

Activities & Places to See

Royal Palace: We began our day with a visit to the majestic Royal Palace of Madrid, the official residence of the Spanish royal family. We loved walking around its grand rooms and beautiful gardens, where the kids could run free.
Next, Plaza Mayor greeted us with its lively energy. The kids ran around as we had a coffee and grabbed some local treats from nearby stalls.
Retiro Park was a perfect spot for a relaxed afternoon. Renting a boat on the park's lake was great fun with the kids, while after we enjoyed strolling through the gardens and fountains and enjoyed an ice cream under the shade of the trees.
Prado Museum is full of famous Spanish art by artists like Velázquez and Goya but to fully appreciate and enjoy it, you need to take one of the guided tours.

Food & Bars

Established in 1725, Sobrino de Botín holds the Guinness World Record as the oldest restaurant globally. This historic gem exudes rustic charm and specializes in traditional Castilian cuisine. A must-try is their famous roast suckling pig, known for its delicious taste. Nestled in the La Latina neighborhood, Casa Lucio offers classic Spanish dishes. Their star dish is the "Huevos Rotos" featuring potatoes and ham. With its cozy ambiance and friendly service, Casa Lucio is an excellent choice for a family meal.
