greyce's trip to rio

By Greyce Inacio

Rio 1

I recently visited the coastal city of Rio De Janeiro, which is a vibrant and diverse city with a rich cultural heritage. It is famously known for its breath-taking beaches, carnival celebrations, and the world famous landmarks located in Southern Brazil. We had a seamless journey onboard Air France with a layover in Paris and then directly onto Rio.

Location

Rio De Janeiro is the perfect combination of city and beach, with plenty of chances to experience the diverse cultures of the region. From the stunning views of Christ the Redeemer and the Sugarloaf Mountain to the lively beaches and neighbourhoods, there is no shortage of things to see and do. It took around an hour to get from the airport to the centre. We enjoyed our stay at the Barra da Tijuca area, which is a popular beach area nestled into the west of Rio. The area is filled with local restaurants, bars, and large shopping centres but is mostly popularly for its jaw dropping beaches.

What I Loved

I absolutely loved my experience mingling with the local people as I found them to be very friendly and welcoming. The food was also a standout experience for us during our trip as there was so much to choose from, with many restaurants offering all types of local and international cuisine. The stunning view of Christ the Redeemer was also a surreal experience.

SHOPPING

Shopping in Rio de Janeiro is a wonderful experience as you can opt for a high-end shopping experience in the likes of Shopping Leblon, which is a shopping centre made up of high-end designer stores, or opt for Rio Sul Shopping Centre which is located in Botafogo and has a variety of national and international stores. There is also the option for a more traditional experience of a popular Sunday market called ‘Hippie Fair’ located in the heart of Ipanema which sell a variety of locally made clothing and jewellery.

Food & Bars

There is a number of options suitable for everyone when it comes to dining in Rio de Janeiro. Our favourite restaurant we dined at was Aprazível, a gorgeous high-end restaurant with a combination of beautiful food and views. Another personal favourite was CT Boucherie, located in Leblon, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner and drinks. The historic neighbourhood of Lapa is also known for its lively nightlife and vibrant design with many bars and nightclubs making it the perfect place to enjoy a night out.
