Jacynta's Trip to Torremolinos

By Jacynta Mullen

Kate's trip to Tenerife

I recently travelled with my husband to Torremolinos and spent 5 days enjoying this popular destination on the Costa del Sol, Spain. We flew with Aer Lingus from Dublin to Malaga. From Malaga Airport we took a train at Malaga Maria Zambrano railway station to Torremolinos, which took about 20 minutes.

Location

Torremolinos is a vibrant destination, with beautiful, sunny beaches, picturesque natural landscapes, a great Mediterranean climate, and lively vibes. There are plenty of restaurants, outdoors activities, bars, and entertainment in the area. We stayed in the 4 star Melia Costa del Sol Hotel, which has a nice rooftop terrace with sea view. This hotel also has an outdoor pool, gym, spa, and a restaurant which serves Mediterranean cuisine for dinner as well as a buffet and continental breakfast. The rooms in the hotel are modern and spacious, with a terrace overlooking the sea. It is located on the beachfront and is close to Carihuela Beach and Torremolinos centre.

What I Loved

I loved the Old Town, which has a mixture of traditional and modern stores and restaurants as well as the Jardin Botanico Molino de Inca with its beautiful garden.

Activities & Places to See

  • Walk around the Torremolinos Old Town. It is the heart of the town and is full of bars, restaurants, shopping destinations, events, and amazing nightlife.
  • Visit the Jardin Botanico Molino de Inca with more than a thousand plant species, different types of birds and flowers. The best part is the Japanese Garden reproduction with a pretty lake and Japanese decorations and plants.
  • Have a fun day out at Aqualand Torremolinos where you'll find amazing adrenaline-pumping aquatic thrills like twister, rapids, speed racer and more; the Tivoli World amusement park makes for a great day out too with shows and exciting attractions to suit all tastes.
  • Take a picture at Casa de las Navajas, a traditional Andalusian villa designed with beautiful architecture, Seville tiles with colorful geometric forms and an amazing sea-facing view.

Shopping

Shopping in Torremolinos is amazing. There is a mix of Spanish style and modern products on offer here, so you're sure to find something unique to take home with you! Calle San Miguel is the main shopping area in the town, with plenty of shops from souvenir shops to high-street retailers like Stradivarius, Pull & Bear and Zara. The Carihuela district and Las Tres Torres street have traditional Spanish products and nice souvenir shops that are the perfect place to find a memento of your holiday.

Food & Bars

We had dinner in El Gato Lounge, which served great Mediterranean cuisine and a fantastic atmosphere. We also enjoyed the Secretos Ibericos as they had a good choice of wines, delicious food, and an amazing atmosphere. The pork dishes and tapas at the Mejor con Reserva were great too. We certainly were not disappointed with the food selection in Torremolinos!

Beaches

Torremolinos have 4 main beaches: La Carihuela Beach, Playa El Bojondillo, Playamar Beach and Playa de los Alamos. All of them have lovely and relaxing vibes. There are also many activities to choose from such as water sports like banana boats, kayaks, and paddle boards. The beaches have good facilities to buy drinks and snacks too and shops.
