Lisa's Trip to Madrid

Lisas Trip To Madrid

Last year I travelled with my husband to Madrid and spent 4 days enjoying this cultural and vivacious city. We flew with Aer Lingus directly from Dublin to Madrid. From Madrid Airport we took a taxi to the city centre, which took about 30 minutes.

Location

Madrid is a beautiful city rich in history, arts, culture and full of life. There are plenty of restaurants, outdoor activities, bars, and entertainment to choose from throughout. We stayed at the 4 star Santo Domingo Hotel, which is located close to Gran Via and Santo Domingo Metro Station. The hotel offers a sunroof terrace with a swimming pool and an amazing view of the city. There is also a restaurant named Sando which offers traditional Spanish dishes and a skewer bar as well as a cocktail bar. A delicious buffet breakfast is on offer too. The rooms are really nicely decorated in a modern yet classic style.

What I Loved

I loved the delicious food, the amazing arts and culture and the fabulous shopping opportunities available in the city. I especially loved The Prado Museum as I loved looking at all the different works that were on display - it felt like jumping back in the past!

Activities & Places to See

  • Visit the great Plaza Mayor, the main square in the heart of Madrid.
  • See the amazing Royal Palace of Madrid, the official residence of Spain’s royal family and one of the largest palaces in the world.
  • Relax at Retiro Park where there's plenty to see and do.
  • Watch the sunset at the Temple of Debod, an archaeological site with its own Egyptian temple.
  • Enjoy Madrid’s meeting point, Plaza Mayor, a beautiful renaissance square.

Shopping

Shopping in Madrid is so colourful and unique as there is an eclectic mix of Spanish styles and international fashions. There are plenty of places to go shopping too; you can find a whole host of brands at the Las Rozas Village Outlet, while the Gran Via and Plaza dos de Mayo are surrounded by amazing shops with international brands too.

Food & Bars

We had dinner at a rooftop bar called Circulo de Ballas Artes, which has a fantastic panoramic view of Madrid. We also enjoyed some delicious traditional Tapas in the restaurants La Perejila, Txakolina and El Tempranillo which are located on the Tapas Street of Cava Baja. We also loved Sobrino de Botin, the oldest restaurant in the world, which serves traditional Spanish cuisine and even has a delicious suckling pig on offer.
