Lisa's Trip to Sydney

Lisas Trip To Sydney

Last year I travelled with my husband to Sydney and spent 2 weeks enjoying this sunny and cultural city. We flew with Etihad from Dublin to Abu Dhabi and then from Abu Dhabi to Sydney. From Sydney Airport we took a taxi to the city centre which took about 20 minutes.

Location

Sydney is a wonderful and beautiful beach city. It is a vibrant destination with a mixture of beaches and cosmopolitan touches. There are plenty of amenities in the city, including restaurants, places to do outdoor activities, and bars. We stayed in the 5 star Swissotel Sydney Hotel. Our room was beautifully decorated in a sophisticated and modern style and we had a stunning view of the city. Some of the facilities in the hotel includes a spa, fitness center, swimming pool, a bar called the Crossroad bar which serves delicious cocktails and snacks and JPB restaurant which serves tasty Australian cuisine. The hotel is conveniently and centrally located in Sydney Central Business District. It faces the state theatre and is just 50m from Pitt St Mall. It is 5 minutes to Queen Victoria Building and 20 minutes from Sydney Harbor Bridge, The Rocks and Sydney Opera House so it is close to lots of popular tourist attractions.

What I Loved

We loved the Sydney Opera House as we were fascinated by its spectacular architecture. Taronga Zoo was also a really enjoyable day out as it's home to a wide variety of animals. We also visited Bondi Beach during sunset which was an incredible experience.

Activities & Places to See

  • Taronga Zoo is a great day out for all ages and is home to over 5,000 animals from over 350 species.
  • Explore the Royal Botanic Garden and Mrs Macquarie’s chair. This is the oldest garden in Australia and has an incredible variety of plants and flowers.
  • Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge and visit Sydney Tower Skywalk to get an incredible view of the city and Sydney Opera Theatre.
  • Catch a show at the Sydney Opera House, one of Sydney's most iconic landmarks.
  • Take a trip to Bondi Beach where you can swim, surf and sunbathe.

Shopping

Sydney has plenty of places to do some shopping, with a variety of products on offer including international brands but also local labels, handcrafted jewellery and elegant homewares. Pitt Street Mall, Queen Victoria Building and Westfield Sydney are home to many shops that suit all kinds of budgets. Bondi is a great place to find some wonderful local Australian shops which sell souvenirs and clothes. Paddy’s Market is the biggest market in Sydney and sells a variety of goods.

Food & Bars

Sydney has plenty of bars and restaurants, so you're sure to find a place that suits your tastes. We tried delicious Aussie dishes in some of the restaurants along Bondi Beach and Bondi Road. We also had dinner in Circular Quay, which is known for its excellent gourmet dining options. They have a fantastic menu and great service.

Beaches

Bondi Beach is the most popular beach in Sydney. It is the perfect place to relax, surf and practice sports. The beach has good facilities to buy drinks and snacks too.
