Shauns Trip To Ischia Macro

Ischia is a beautiful island in the Bay of Naples, Italy, that offers stunning scenery, thermal spas, historic attractions, and delicious cuisine. It is a perfect destination for a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday, and it is easy to reach from Dublin.

Location

Ischia is a small island, but it has a lot to offer to its visitors. You can spend your days relaxing on the beach, soaking in the thermal waters, exploring the castle, visiting the gardens, tasting the wine, and enjoying the food. The easiest and fastest way to get to Ischia from Dublin is to fly to Naples and then take a ferry or a hydrofoil to the island. There are several airlines that offer direct flights from Dublin to Naples, such as Ryanair, Aer Lingus, and British Airways. Once you arrive at Naples airport, you have several options to get to the port where you can catch a ferry or a hydrofoil to Ischia. You can take a bus, a taxi, or a private transfer.

What I Loved

I loved getting to explore this beautiful island while the weather was warm & sunny, as I spent lots of time outdoors taking in the views & getting a true taste for the Italian way of life.

Activities & Places to See

  • Relax on Ischia's gorgeous beaches. There are plenty to choose from, ranging from sandy to rocky, from crowded to secluded, from free to paid. Some of the most popular beaches are Maronti, San Montano, Citara, and Cartaromana, where you can find sunbeds, umbrellas, bars, restaurants, and water sports.
  • Visit a spa or natural pool where you can soak in the thermal waters, famous for their healing properties for the skin, muscles, joints, and the mind.
  • Explore Castello Aragonese, the most iconic landmark of Ischia. This castle is a must-see for history and culture lovers.
  • Admire the flora and fauna of Ischia and enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature at some of the gardens located around the island. Some of the most beautiful gardens are La Mortella, Ravino, and Villa La Colombaia, where you can find exotic plants, rare birds, and artistic sculptures.

Food & Bars

Ischia is also a paradise for food lovers, as it offers a variety of dishes that reflect the island’s culture and geography. You can enjoy the food in restaurants, pizzerias, or street stalls, and savour the flavours and the aromas of the local cuisine. Some of the most famous dishes are Coniglio all’ischitana (rabbit stew), spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams), and baba al rum (rum cake). Ischia is also known for its wine, which is produced from the grapes that grow on the volcanic soil of the island. You can taste the wine in vineyards, wineries, or bars, and learn about the history and the tradition of wine making.
