Tara's Trip to Barcelona
By Tara Fitzgibbon
Location
Barcelona is located in the northeastern part of Spain. It sits on the northeastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, facing the Mediterranean Sea, and is the capital and largest city of Catalonia. We flew direct from Dublin into Barcelona International Airport with Ryanair. It was approximately 15km to the city centre from the airport.
What I Loved
I really loved walking around the area of Las Ramblas & down the cobble locked side streets, as it was so picturesque and gave me an authentic experience of Barcelona. I also really liked loved the port area with the boats all docked & the beach in the city.
Activities & Places to See
- Soak in the atmosphere of Las Ramblas and see some of its most famous landmarks, including the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona's opera house), the Boqueria Market (a famous food market), and the Christopher Columbus Monument.
- To see as much of the city as possible, do the Hop On Hop Off bus tour which will take you to many of Barcelona's most iconic spots.
- Learn about Barcelona's history at the Gothic Quarter, where you can find locations such as the Cathedral of Barcelona, Carrer del Bisbe & Placa de Sant Jaume.
Shopping
Barcelona is a fantastic destination for shopping, offering a diverse range of shops, markets, and districts. Some of the best shopping spots include La Rambla, Passeig de Gracia & La Boqueria.
Food & Bars
There are plenty of local outdoor eateries where you can enjoy the city's good weather while you have your meal along Las Ramblas & around the Gothic Area. I'd also recommend visiting some of the roof top bars in the hotels also, as they make for the perfect spot to enjoy a drink in the evening after a long day of exploring the city.
