Toni's Trip to Amsterdam

I recently had the pleasure of joining a group of fellow travel agents for a one-night stay on board Avalon View, the newest addition to the fleet, based in Amsterdam. From the moment the trip began, everything ran seamlessly. After arriving into Schiphol Airport, we were met and transferred by coach, with the port conveniently located just a short 25 minute journey away.

What I Loved

In relation to Avalon, their panoramic suites are a real highlight, with beds thoughtfully positioned to face the river so you can make the most of the views. The food choices were excellent throughout, with everything tasting fresh and well prepared. The pre-dinner happy hour also stood out as a lovely social occasion, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere on board.

Activities & Places to See

Onboard Evening Experience – Although our stay was just for one night with limited time to explore further, the evening was fully hosted on board, featuring a lively happy hour, dinner, drinks, and a fun 80’s-themed party.
Dam Square – The historic heart of Amsterdam, surrounded by iconic landmarks and a vibrant atmosphere perfect for soaking up the city’s energy.
Albert Cuyp Market – A colourful and bustling street market offering everything from local delicacies to souvenirs, located in the lively De Pijp district.
Van Gogh Museum – Home to the world’s largest collection of works by Vincent van Gogh, offering a fascinating insight into his life and artistry.
Vondelpark – The city’s most popular green space, perfect for a relaxing stroll, cycling, or enjoying the outdoors.
Canal Cruise – A must-do experience in Amsterdam, offering a unique perspective of the city’s charming canals and architecture.
STRAAT Museum – A dynamic museum dedicated to street art, showcasing large-scale works from artists around the world in an industrial setting.

RESTAURANTS & BARS

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to experience these myself, as I chose to join a power walking tour around Amsterdam during the limited free time we had. It was a great way to see more of the city in a short space of time, offering a quick yet engaging glimpse of its highlights and atmosphere.

Overall Overview

Overall, my short stay on board Avalon View offered a wonderful snapshot of both the ship and the charm of Amsterdam. Although limited to just one night, the experience was well organised, with excellent food, sociable onboard events, and thoughtfully designed panoramic suites. While I spent my free time exploring the city on a guided power walk, it added to the overall experience. It was a brief but enjoyable visit, leaving a strong impression of comfort, quality, and a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere.
