Vanessa's Trip to Manchester

Vanessa Trip Manchester Macro

The main highlight of my trip to Manchester was a visit to Old Trafford to witness an exciting game. As the iconic home of Manchester United, the stadium provided an unforgettable experience for football enthusiasts.

Location

I travelled to Manchester with Aer Lingus, and with frequent daily flights from Ryanair, accessibility was convenient. My accommodation choice was the Hilton at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, a mere 10-minute stroll from Old Trafford football stadium. The journey to Manchester city center took around 30 minutes by taxi, and there were additional convenient public transport alternatives available.

What I Loved

The stadium atmosphere was truly captivating; even for non-football enthusiasts, it's an experience worth having at least once in a lifetime. The presence of passionate, die-hard fans at every game, cheering and chanting, creates an unforgettable and immersive environment.

Activities & Places to See

  • Old Trafford Stadium, the renowned home of Manchester United, offers more than just matchdays. Explore the behind-the-scenes magic with a Stadium Tour, savor delectable bites at the Red Cafe, or grab a memorable souvenir from the Megastore. Conveniently accessible, a 15-minute train ride from Piccadilly station brings you to this iconic destination.

Shopping

Manchester is a shopping paradise, attracting global visitors for its diverse retail experiences. From the renowned Manchester Arndale and The Trafford Centre to high street havens like Exchange Square and Market Street, indulge in international brands and British favorites at John Lewis, Selfridges, House of Fraser, and Marks and Spencer. For a touch of uniqueness, explore boutique districts like King Street, Spinningfields, and New Cathedral Street, or dive into the alternative and creative hub of The Northern Quarter for vintage stores, record shops, and more. Seeking deals and designer brands? Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet boasts a quarter-million square feet of retail bliss with over 145 boutiques.

Food & Bars

I enjoyed a delightful dining experience in the hotel restaurant, relishing delicious fare. En route to the stadium, an array of food trucks offered tempting choices of takeaway hot dogs, burgers, and chips, providing diverse options for a quick and satisfying bite.
